Nice hike in Laguna Mountains I went hiking in the Laguna Mountains today, and did an 11 mile loop. I parked at Penny Pines (near the 27 mile marker on Sunrise Hwy), and headed west on the Nobel Canyon Trail for a short distance, then branched off to the Big Laguna Trail which follows the edge of Laguna Meadow and provides some great views of Big Laguna Lake. I followed the trail south, then east across Sunrise Highway, where it meets up with the Pacific Crest Trail. That portion of the trail is very scenic, mostly meadows and Pine groves. When it meets up with the PCT though, it follows the mountain ridge, and to the east are spectular views of the desert a few thousand feet below. A few miles north on the PCT, then it meets back up with the Nobel Canyon trail, and back to my car. For most of the trip, the elevation ranges between 5000 and 6000 feet. Although the hike is a little long, it is not very strenuous, and there are no massive elevation changes.
