Can't Miss - Do and See

Cuyamaca Rancho State Park is located forty miles east of San Diego, and offers a great change of pace from the rest of San Diego Country. There are pine and oak forests, meadows, and even small streams, which are rarely found in San Diego, and are partially attributable to the fact that the Cuyamaca mountain area receives the most rainfall of anywhere in the county, with about 37" per year.
The highest point in the park, Cuyamaca Peak, at 6512 ft, is also the second highest point in San Diego county. In the 25,000 acres of the park, there are great hiking, horse and mountain biking trails, as well as several campgrounds.
In October 2003, much of the park was destroyed by the San Diego wildfires. Due to the damage, a majority of the park has been temporarily closed.
Update: The park is now open both for camping and hiking. The majority of the trails are open and well marked. In the forest areas you will still see much fire damage, as most of the large trees suffered extensive damage, however the ground cover is back and many plants are recovering nicely.
