Santa Catalina Island, informally known as Catalina, is a small island of the coast of California. It is one of the Channel Islands, and is 22 miles southwest of the Los Angeles coastline. It is officially part of LA County. Though it is a famous island, it still remains very quaint and charming, and is an excellent getaway from the hustle and bustle of southern California.
It is an island of about 3000 residents, most of whom reside in the main city of Avalon, which is a small town located on the bay. Around a million people visit each year, most arriving by ferry. Ferries regularly depart from Newport Beach, Dana Point, Long Beach, San Pedro, and Marina del Rey.
