Santa Barbara is a city of almost 100,000 people located on the Pacific Coast, about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Like much of the southern California coastal region, the climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean.
The city is very clean, and with the combination of the natural beauty of the mountains and the beaches, and the Spanish style architecture, it is a very beautiful place. To the east, you can see the beautiful Santa Ynez mountains behind the city. All the buildings are mostly white buildings and red clay title roofs. All these things make the city a wonderful place to visit.
There is much to do in the downtown area, with places which cater to all types. There are small bars and cafes, many nicer and more upscale restaurants, and there is plenty of shopping, all within walking distance of the coast and the train station, and most of it on or near State Street.
Santa Barbara is easily accessible by Amtrak, from both LA and San Diego.
