The state of New York is probably most well known for New York City and the New York Yankees. Although there is indeed much to do in New York City, the rest of the state has much to offer as well. For those living in the city, it can be a good escape, a way to stay close to home but get out of the congestion of the city, whether it be to do some camping or hiking, or to just enjoy the outdoors in general. Close to the city are the Catskill mountains, and then further upstate are the Adirondacks. East of the city and south of Connecticut there is also Long Island, which is a nice getaway from the city, and is well known for the celebrities that both live there and vacation there.
New York is bordered on the east by Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, and on the south by Pennsylvania and New Jersey. On the northwest border of the state is Lake Ontario, and on the west is Lake Erie. To the north is Canada.
