Croatia is a horseshoe shaped country located in central/southeastern Europe, on the Mediterranean and east across the Adriatic Sea from Italy. The country was formerly part of the Republic of Yugoslavia, but achieved independence in 1991. Its current capital city is Zagreb.

Although typically not on the top of people's travel lists, Croatia is becoming more and more of a popular destination with the increasing costs of visiting Western Europe. The climate is Mediterranean, and it has much to offer. It is well known for its beautiful coastline, and many islands.
