The Republic or Ireland makes up about 5/6 of the island of Ireland, and 26 of 32 counties, the rest of the island being Northern Ireland.

Contrary to what many people believe, the Republic of Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom.
Dublin is the capital of Ireland, Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland.
