The Republic of Buryatia (Buryat Republic) is one of the 89 federal subjects of the Russian Federation. Geographically, it lies in Eastern Siberia and Russia in the central part of Asia, along the eastern shore of the magnificent Lake Baikal. Landwise it is about the size of Germany.

Of these 89 federal subjects of Russia, Buryatia is one of the 21 Republics. Over 100 nationalities and ethnic groups inhabit Buryatia, including Russians (70%), Buryats (24%), and Ukrainians (2.2%).

The climate is dry, and there are yearly more than 300 sunny days.
