The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern coast of Africa. The island chain consists of seven major islands, and is an autonomous community of Spain.
The islands are a major travel destination for Europeans, and as such the islands have good transportation and ports. All the islands also have airports, while most international flights go through Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote. Many cities in Europe offer flights to the islands. Also, there is a weekly ferry from the southern Spanish port of Cádiz.
Once on the islands, buses are available and fairly affordable, and taxis are always an option. Getting between islands can be done by ferry, as well as by plane.
